We are honored to have Carol Thelen as a teacher in Accuquilt Learning and Support, and QuiltersB. She has agreed to bring her Quiltnotes 'Quilt Calculator' to us in conjunction with Accuquilt and EQ8.
For a long time, you have been asking that EQ8 questions might be answered, particularly as it works with our Accuquilt dies. So, I have talked with Carol and she - also a member of our Learning and Support page - has agreed to address your interest, concerns, and questions.
Combine the powerful design tools of EQ8 with the resources and calculators of QuiltNotes.com and the cutting simplicity and accuracy of Accuquilt. Design and piece blocks with confidence and ease. This live Zoom class shows you how to use EQ8 to find patch sizes, use QuiltNotes.com to match them to Accuquilt dies, and plan your projects with confidence. Carol says, this is perfect for all skill levels.
Carol will be with us Friday, October 17th, 10-1:00 p.m. Eastern time. May we welcome her warmly. She has much to teach us. Her quiltnotes.com website is already a help to many of us. She will open our eyes to new understanding and we will grow.
Schedule uninterrupted sewing time.
These mini retreats are offered through QuiltersB to promote the idea that we can all sew together and be motivation for each other.
Click here to register for any of these mini retreat/Christmas Workshops.
One more Tuesday: September 9th - 10-5:00 p.m. Eastern Time
Christmas Workshop Thursdays:
October 16, November 13, and December 18 - 10-5:00 p.m.
Overwhelmed quilters need uninterrupted sewing time for unfinished projects, Christmas sewing, and for catch-up on class work.
Many want company in their sewing room. Others want to know there is someone who can help them with a skill. So, join me in my sewing room. I will join you in yours. Let's help each other, and sew together on Zoom.
Schedule one day once a month for uninterrupted sewing. Write it on the calendar. Educate your family that you are dedicating that day to the sewing room. Maybe plan ahead so supper is in the freezer.
Call this a mini-retreat, a therapeutic respite, or a Christmas workshop. The spirit is the same; we are all like elves preparing for that big day when we gift a quilt to someone. Many of us just need to breathe and create.
I offered July, August and September on a Tuesday. Now there are official Christmas Workshops on Thursdays: October, November and December from 10-5:00 p.m. By switching the days, it gives those who couldn't do Tuesdays a chance to join a different day.
Also, it is possible to register for one day or two or three. Please know that the cost is slightly less if you pay for the three day package. But this payment option gives you some flexibility, month to month.
This Octagon Table Topper is perfect for any season. Make it for Halloween or with Christmas fabrics. Perhaps create one with all the primary colors on the color wheel.
The project is paper pieced. This one is easy. We make our houses out of fanciful fabrics and then piece them together. I hope a few of my paper piecing besties will want to tackle this cute topper.
We're doing this class with two weeks in between: October 2nd and October 23rd. That will give you plenty of time to complete most of the houses. Then we will put things together on the 23rd. A thought: Notice how on October 16th, there will be a Mini Retreat sewing day. Perhaps you would like to work on this project during that sewing day. I'm game.
Credit for the pattern goes to All People Quilt. This is an old pattern of theirs that I've enjoyed making and teaching. Now I get to share it with you.
It's easy to register for this Octagonal table topper class. Just click on this link and register.
Thursday, October 2nd and 23rd,
10-1:00 p.m. Eastern time.
The Gosh and Golly quilt pattern is found on page 85 in Kim Diehl's Simple Patchwork book by the Martingale publishers. It makes up into a 21 1/2" x 24 1/2" finished quilt. So for anyone loving to work with smaller shapes, this quilt will be a delight to make.
As I look at the pattern, it seems we might be using the 4" Qube and the 8" Qube. Of course, we may discover the 6" Qube is pulled into our handiwork as well. There are always surprises.
I know I've loved Kim Diehl for years. She continues to amaze with the patterns she creates. I continue to be amazed, and with every pattern, I find myself wanting more. I do hope you'll join me for some fun with small pieces. They can be a challenge.
If you are interested in this class, I've lined it up for three 3-hour sessions, alternating weeks. That way there's no pressure. You have plenty of time to work on your project in between Christmas 'stuff'. And when complete, you will have given yourself a gift.
Click on the photo of the quilt or the words 'register here' to claim your spot in class.
Alerting anyone wanting to attend Accuquilt Club that it is on Thursday, September 12th, 2-4:00 p.m. Eastern time. (Check your time zone) This Club can be a one time visit or I welcome you to attend regularly.
We talk dies, sales, tips and tricks, and then usually there is some topic we address. It is recorded and happily downloadable. There is also a PowerPoint pdf.
This is a great entry level Zoom class. After the PowerPoint we open our microphones for dialoguing about questions and answers. I demo anything that needs a real time explanation.
Bring your questions and we will answer them.
Click here to register. You may register for September through December on the same page.
Thursday, September 4th and 11th, 1-4:00 p.m. Eastern time
This QUILT AS YOU GO CLASS reviews Pauline Rogers techniques for quilting pieced blocks on your domestic machine. Square them and learn to join them with spacer strips, sashings, and borders into a beautiful, finished quilt.

This QAYG approach to finishing a quilt is satisfying. When you gift a quilt, take pride in the reality that all the work is your own. If you would like to learn the process and practice these techniques, register below. QAYG will save you from expensive long arm costs and piles of UFOs.
Hope to see you in class! It is easy to register. Simply click here.
We had a very pleasant time playing with Pattern #1, and so the Little Shop of Stiches has agreed to sponsor this second class. In October we will follow up with a class to build the final two patterns #3 and #4.
If you did not take the first class, no problem. Bring your pattern and pick out your fabrics. We will create together.
This pattern is large and lovely. I was amazed at how much I feel in love with my first basket. Now I can hardly wait to make the others.
If you would like to join me, click here for more information about registration.
Starting September 23rd and 30th, 10-1:00 p.m. Eastern time.
Let me introduce you to my fun-loving and very artistic sister. She lives in Brownsburg, Indiana and free motion quilts. In fact, she is a professional free motion quilter who thoroughly understands the need to begin a free motion journey with good solid basics.
She has agreed to teach us online. We can listen and learn and practice during class. It will mean working with our respective machine to find out what it can do. It will be starting with straight lines and growing from there.
If you have always wanted to begin this approach to quilting and haven't know where or how to do that, then join this class. While Donna's orientation is with Bernina machines, there is so much information here that can be translated to your unique situation.
Interested? You can participate in the process by clicking on Donna's photo at the left or clicking here to register.
Monday, September 15, 2-5:00 p.m.
This die is awesome for learning how to cut and sew curves. If you've not done that before, then this class is for you.
Curves can feel easy because Accuquilt has created notches on the cut pieces to match up as you sew. And the fun you can have with color is phenomenal.
Stand back and squint at the sample above. The secondary circular pattern that is created is awesome. Just like interlocking rings, you can understand why this could be an alternate wedding quilt pattern.
I do hope you'll come play with your flowering snowball die. Let me inspire you and motivate you to be creative. Click here to register for class Monday, September 15th, 2-5 p.m. Eastern time.
Back-to-back class: Sunday/Monday, September 28th and 29th, 2-5:00 p.m.
For a long time, I've wondered if we could do occasional back-to-back classes. So, with this class, we will experiment.
Using the 8" Snails Trail die and the 8" Qube with it's 8" Mix and Match Angles, we can create a quilt that is lovely. Break up the rolling waves in the Snails Trail and insert delightful diamonds.
This is a fun class to make a small quilt sample like mine, or perhaps, make a larger quilt. We will concentrate on the Snails Trail during Sunday's class, and then add the diamonds on Monday.
This design calms the seas and let's the light shine through those demanding waves that small snails seem to create.
Won't you join me? Click here or on the photo above to register.
September 13, 10-1:00 p.m. Eastern
This is a Saturday class.
It seems appropriate to learn about the schoolhouse die in September as the kids return to school. Of course, many school systems fired up in August. We can kick off our own learning goals this time of the year too. It is an exciting year of new discoveries.
Many have had this schoolhouse die for quite some time. I know. It sits on the shelf waiting for you to remove the cellophane and play. Perhaps you tried with little success. In this class, tips and tricks for constructing these schoolhouses will perhaps make things much easier. Let me inspire you!
Many exclaim, “I am terrible at choosing fabrics for my quilts.” So, let’s do a class and talk about that. I'm all in. Are you?
Allow me to give you tips and tricks for selecting fabrics. Talk values, shades, tints, dark, medium and light with me. Get into a helpful mindset for choosing just what you need next time around.
Remove the stress. Playing with fabric can be fun. I'll even give resources that are helpful for choosing color combos.
Interested. There are upcoming classes, one in August and if that date isn't good for you, there's one in October. Click here to register.
The beauty of quilting is the multitude of styles, approaches, perspectives, techniques, and art. Add in the wide variety of quilters 'out there' with their personal interests and anything is possible.
I am a teacher who listens. Your input is always welcome. I love the ideas you bring to the table. So, give me the kernel of a class and let me mull it over. We'll brainstorm and be creative.
Do you have a class wish list? Do you have ideas I should know about? By clicking here, share your wishes. I'm all ears.
For those wanting clever borders, I am offering a variety of ideas, options, and pattern designs for the outside framing of those lovely quilts you are creating.
We will talk about how to assess a quilt. Does it need a border or not? Will a border enhance the quilt or be too busy? How do we decide on fabrics to use for our border?
There's so much more to consider about borders than simply building them. And when we build them, they can be fun, especially on those kids quilts that need some pizazz.
I do hope you'll opt into this class. I'm in the process of building it. If you have ideas, let me know. Meanwhile, save a space here or click on the photo above.
Friday, October 3rd, 10-1:00 p.m. Eastern time.
If you've never played with the maple leaf die, this is your chance. I am amazed at what delightful quilt blocks this die creates. And the resulting quilt or table topper is lovely or stunning. Pick your adjective.
So many of us have dies on the shelf that we've not used. I am inviting you to experiment with this one. Come join me.
Make your leaves out of fall fabrics for October and November, or create something with different seasonal fabrics to highlight your table at another time. You may even choose to make a quilt.
To register for class, click here. I look forward to playing with you.
