I will show how to make the basic placemat out of one colored fabric or two colors, one on the front and one on the back.
The placemat above is a variation of what we will make. It's a matter of breaking up the basic flat design into quadrants. We will discuss that.
Then, you can quilt your mat or embroider on it or applique shapes. These are so much fun.
Sunday, August 23rd, 2-5:00 p.m. Eastern Time (1-4:00 Central Time)
Want to learn how I make placemats with no binding and with angled corners that are all the same? Of course, you can keep your corners square. Learn to do a flip and turn method that requires no hand sewing to close the seam. These tweaks are so helpful.
Add your own embroidery as an applique and make as you see here or create your placemats out of two lovely simple pieces of fabric. Then of course, you can always take time to free motion your placemats.
This is a 'flash' August class. Sew with me. I will demonstrate my process. These placemats are great Christmas gifts. Maybe make them for Halloween treats at the table. They are quick and easy fun.
Supply list for class: Each placemat requires a top piece of fabric 14 1/2" x 19". Fuse thin fleece to the top piece so they measure the same size: 14 1/2 x 19". The backing measures 21 1/2" x 15". Do not add fleece to the backing. You will also need Clover Double Sided Tape. Doug Leko's Mini Simple Folded Corners Ruler is very helpful if you have it or can acquire it. Then I will show you how to tweak this placemat and you'll never look back. They come out looking professional.
